Keitai Watch: Mobile Terminals and MP3 Players Converge for Japanese PHS Subscribers Sanyo announced its RZ-J91 music player PHS terminal scheduled for sale on 30th November. The terminal can download MP3 encoded music onto an SMC flash memory card for later playback and comes complete with remote control, earphones and colour display. A 5 minute CD quality sample can be downloaded in 10 minutes by taking advantage of PHS's 64kbps data capability. Sanyo envisages the terminal being used to send email and browse web pages whilst simultaneously playing MP3 music samples. The ultimate distraction for those long commutes. read more...

Infoworld: HDML or WAP plus WML? IT disaster looms over mobile microbrowser wars Now all the current phones say they have WAP browsers, but it really ain't so. More than 90 percent of these cell phones sold in the United States use the Phone.com browser, which is only partially WAP-compatible. Phone.com actually uses HDML (Handheld Device Markup Language) for the presentation layer. A full WAP browser implementation, which is what Nokia and Ericsson plan to introduce, uses WML (Wireless Markup Language) for the presentation layer. read more...
