Newsbytes: Wireless Messaging Hits 9 Billon Figures released by the GSM association show that 9 billion SMS text messages are being sent across GSM/PCS wireless networks around the world each month. The 9 billion mark was breached for the first time in August, the GSM Association said. As a direct result of its findings, the association has revised its prediction to 15 billion for the number of SMS text messages that will be sent a month by the end of the year.

Computing: Virgin Pioneers the Mobile-Operated Vending Machine Virgin Mobile is to unveil a vending machine operated via mobile phone. Instead of using change, users dial a number which debits the purchase from their mobile account. Other partners in the service include Ericsson and vending machine operator Vendapack.
